This is an event of SHAKUHACHI WORKSHOP & CONCERT.

SHAKUHACHI is the traditional Japanese Instrument, bumboo flute, which has very natural and expressive sound.

The instrument has obtained very simple and natural form, which requires the player to adjust their way of playing.

Therefore,  playing shakuhachi is to face the way of using the body, which often lead to the awareness of connection between body and mind of the player.

In this event, we would like to suggest the way you listen and play shakuhachi, from the point of view of the way of using body; "breath".

In SHAKUHACHI WORKSHOP, we will offer amazing experience to actually play the instrument and making sound.

By doing so, you are going to feel the connection between your body and mind, successfully integrating those.

In SHAKUHACHI CONCERT, various Shakuhachi music is to be introduced.

Musical pieces from Edo peried (1604-1868) to nowadays, we are going to listen through long history of the instrument.

・ABOUT PLAYER

Koudou TSUGAMI

Japanese Shakuhachi player Koudou Tsugami started playing shakuhachi soon after he entered Tokyo University in 2010.

After graduating from Tokyo University, earning the Bachelor of Agriculture, he went to Tokyo University of the Arts majoring Shakuhachi.

He earned the bachelor again, but this time of Music, and was awarded for Ataka Award(2017) , Acanthus Music Award(2018) and Douseikai Award(2018) by Tokyo University of the Arts. He continued his study in master course at Tokyo University of the Arts and finished it in 2020.

Now he is performing as a professional Shakuhachi player, giving caonerts, workshops and lessons, based in Tokyo.
